Vietnam Reflections is a haunting account of the effects of the Vietnam War. Written with such vivid imagery and detail, the reader will feel every heartbeat, every squash of a soldier's boot in the Delta Rice Paddy, and will hear the whistling of incoming rounds as they find their mark.
At times inspiring, and at times bringing the reader to tears, Vietnam Reflections is a collection of stories that trace the evolution of several eighteen-year-old farm boys who went off to war. When they finally returned home, they found that their service and sacrifices were for naught. Following their return to the States, the soldiers were left to survive on their own. Many found that the only way out of Vietnam for good was to end their own lives or to live homeless.
These stories are their voice- their screams- about a distant place and a distant time, about a war that went amok... a war that many Americans wish to forget.

What happens after a bad egg hatches? Grendel Gander is the comic story about how a self-centered stubborn goose bullies his family, friends and lake. As Grendel himself puts it, "I'm mean & I'm nasty, I'm full of abuse. I'm evil incarnate, a most sinister goose! If you think I am kind then your idea's absurd, I am a low-down stinking fowl-feathered bird!" But like all bullies, Grendel eventually gets his comeuppance when an angry turtle accidentally teaches him the lesson of the Golden Rule. The story, inspired by author Michael Homan's childhood experiences growing up alongside a Nebraska river, is brought to life by Peat Duggins' detailed illustrations.

Rule of Thumb: A Guide to Communication Basics for Small Business Owners and Managers
Canada 12.95
U.K. Price 9.95
Just how important are effective communication skills? The answer is critically important, especially in the work world. (Keep in mind that these skills are also extremely useful in your personal life.) Many people, including business professionals, often express doubt about the need for good communication skills, believing that whatever communication skills they already possess will serve them well enough. Perhaps that is true if the person's skills are good, but not so much if the person's skills are less so. Having learned how to read and write in school does not necessarily mean that one has nothing left to learn or upon which to improve. Does having "good communication skills" mean you need to use big long words that few people understand? Absolutely not! Use simple words, but use them correctly. Employer surveys consistently reveal the importance of effective communication skills for securing a job, as well as for job performance, career advancement and the success of a business. Good communication reflects directly on the company, creating trust and presenting a professional image to build better business relationships. Before panicking, remember that good communications skills are learned. No one is born an excellent communicator. Effective communication is a learned skill. Anyone can learn the skills to communicate effectively in both written and oral messages. This book provides basic information to help you improve both written and oral communication skills. It shows you how to be kind to your readers by making what you've written easy to understand. Keep it clear. Keep it simple. Keep it to the point.

Tony Endelman is not a rockstar, an athlete, an actor, or a hero of any kind. He's a twenty-something guy, living in the Midwest, stumbling through life like many of us do and hoping to learn something along the way. Perhaps, that's what makes this book so wildly entertaining. I Hope There's Pie is a collection of eleven personal essays in which Endelman recounts experiences with family, friendship, depression, failure, work, sex, and drugs - and does so with such affecting honesty and utter hilarity that, by the last page, it's impossible not to feel like you've been hanging out with him for years. With a knack for turning the seemingly mundane into the vastly amusing, Tony Endelman just might be one of the next great comedic voices. (Book contains mature language and themes.) "To write a memoir at the tender age of 28 is audacious. But, what transpires in this book of inequities and debauchery is something of note; the living room retellings of young adulthood gone awry - with the tone and candor of a best friend. Hysterical, true to life, easy-to-relate-to, and, unlike anything else out there. You can smell the booze and cigarette smoke tucked between these hundred and some odd pages." - David Wexler, creator of MTV's College Life

Performance: The Collective and Introspective by Angelica Daniele reflects the culmination of a year-long investigation involving the analysis of various aspects of dance performance experiences and their effects on the developing dancer. This investigation focuses on the psychological aspects of performing dance, with consideration given to the biological, emotional, educational, and social aspects involved with such experiences. The information presented reflects the most recent findings from dance research literature and a primary survey-based research study designed to assess the psychological similarities in performance experiences from a range of dancer populations. Additionally, this work reflects the author's personal performance endeavors and commentary from active dance participants in the educational and professional fields of dance. This investigation serves to not only provide a "behind the scenes" perspective on the demanding yet rewarding life of a dancer, but also provoke thought among performing artists as well as those less artistically informed.

Eva McLelland was good at keeping secrets, and she had a big one. Sworn to secrecy for thirty-one years until the death of her husband, Eva was at last able to come forward and share a story that turns twentieth century history on its head and fills in puzzling blanks in the mysterious life of the tycoon Howard Hughes.
How could Hughes appear to witnesses as an emaciated, long finger-nailed, mental incompetent, yet fly a jet aircraft four months later? How could a doctor describe him as looking like a "prisoner of war," when at the same time investment bankers, politicians, and diplomats who met him said he was articulate and well-groomed? The answer is a perfect example of the brilliance of the elusive billionaire. He simply found a mentally incompetent man to impersonate him, drawing the attention of the Internal Revenue Service and an army of lawyers who pursued him, while he conducted his business in peace from Panama with his new wife, Eva McLelland. Sound fantastic? It is. However, after seven years of research and verification, Eva's story produces the final pieces in the mysterious puzzle that was Howard Hughes.
Douglas Wellman has been a television producer and director in Hollywood since 1980. He is currently Assistant Dean of the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Deborah.

Feeling a little nerdy? Then you’re in the right place. Nerdy Thirty is a collection of thirteen humorous essays that recount personal experiences from one woman’s childhood, her painfully awkward teen years, college and those leading up to the big three-oh (no!).
After turning thirty and looking back at her life, Wendy Townley found herself in countless awkward and cringe-worthy situations, many of which she’s able to laugh about now: camping for the first time; meeting pop-star Jessica Simpson; surviving a Nebraska rodeo; and being mistaken for a lesbian. The more she dissected these situations – oftentimes over one too many cocktails – she thankfully arrived at one conclusion: “I shall forever remain a nerd.”
Born and bred in the urban donut hole of Omaha, Nebraska, Townley’s perspective is anything but cornfields and cows. She is just now learning to cook, does not do yard work, has an unhealthy preoccupation with paper and is often mistaken for a Hipster.

"Facing the Blank Page" is a collection of essays and poems written by David Martin.
"David Martin has the rare gift of writing, which inspires readers to open their eyes and look closely at the world around them. Whatever subject he writes about, he convinces us that he has discovered what is most important in life and has never forgotten it. He epitomizes Plato's famous quotation from Socrates: 'The unexamined life is not worth the living.' At the heart of his essays is Martin's conviction that writing is essential to the well being of people of all ages. He has found joy and meaning in his own writing, and he is passionate in his desire to encourage others to realize what a precious gift writing can be. His essays model a graceful style, a strong voice, a facility with language, and a focus on what is truly significant in life." -Dr. Loren Logsdon, Emeritus Professor of English, Eureka College, Eureka, Illinois
