Donna O’Donnell Figurski

Donna O’Donnell Figurski, wife, mother, and granny, is a teacher, playwright, actor, director, picture-book reviewer, photographer, and writer. Donna has published four stories with Scholastic. She was a winner in Essex County’s 2013 Legacies Writing Contest, and she was recognized for her review column for children’s books, Teacher’s Pets, on Site of the Week by the National Education Association.

Donna is published in two anthologies on brain injury, The Resilient Soul and Surviving Brain Injury: Stories of Strength and Inspiration. She is a frequent contributor to online/print journals and magazines on topics regarding brain-injury survivors and caregivers (TBI Hope Magazine, Lash and Associates Publishing Blog, and Disabled Magazine), and she has three biographies of Native Americans in press. Donna also hosts a radio show on the Brain Injury Radio Network. Donna’s greatest accomplishment is being caregiver to her husband, David, who had a traumatic brain injury in 2005.

When something burst inside David’s head, both Donna’s and David’s lives changed forever. Donna’s only request of David’s surgeons before his three brain surgeries was “Give him back to me.” David returned to Donna as a different person, and Donna fell in love all over again with this new version of her husband. Donna and David currently live in the desert.
